A Correct Prediction by Darwin / Một tiên đoán đúng của Darwin

On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth (1809-2009), New Scientist magazine published a special issue, declaring “Darwin was wrong”. However, Darwin had a correct prediction: “If numerous species have really started into life at once, the fact would be fatal to the theory of evolution”.

Abstract: In explaining the word evolve, the English-Vietnamese Dictionary by the Institute of Linguistics has given an interesting example: “Many Victorians were shocked by the notion that Man had evolved from lower forms of life”. Unintentionally, this example brings out two significant questions: Why were Victorian people shocked? Is that Man had really evolved? These historical and scientific questions require the answers.

Tóm tắt: Trong khi giải thích chữ tiến hóa, Từ điển Anh-Việt của Viện ngôn ngữ học đã đưa ra một thí dụ rất hay: “Nhiều người thời Victoria đã bị sốc bởi khái niệm con người tiến hóa từ sinh vật bậc thấp”. Vô tình thí dụ này nêu lên hai câu hỏi có ý nghĩa quan trọng: Tại sao dân chúng thời Victoria bị sốc? Con người có thực sự tiến hóa không?
