That is the mathematician Frank P. A. Dang, a lecturer of mathematics and the Bible at The Covenant Christian Academy, Texas, USA, who has just proposed a theory called “The Big Dang Theory”, as an answer to the origin of life, which has been sent to the jury of the Evolution 2.0 Prize, worth $10 million. The name of Big Dang Theory reminds us of The Big Bang Theory. If the Big Bang Theory says that the universe began from the “singularity point” or “primeval atom”, then the “Big Dang Theory” points out that the universe and life began from an information: “The divine ratio 1:24”…

The big question about the Origin of Life (where life comes from?) is one of the biggest questions of ontology, which has troubled sages and intellectuals of all cultures in all times.

The Bible actually answered several thousand years ago: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).

But in 1871, Charles Darwin proposed a hypothesis that contradicted the Bible, arguing that the first life arose spontaneously from the random combination of nonliving matter molecules. This idea was developed by later generations into many different scenarios, collectively known as the Abiogenesis Theory. In short, the Abiogenesis Theory is a hypothesis about the origin of life without the support of any supernatural force.

Could Abiogenesis be possible? No!

The Urey-Miller experiment of 1952-53 wanted to prove Abiogenesis to be a reality, but failed[1]. This ambition became even more deadlocked when science discovered the information of life – the DNA code. Indeed:

In 1953, Francis Crick and James Watson first discovered the structure of DNA, and they were amazed to realize that the sequence of nucleotides revealed the information of life – DNA molecules actually contain the genetic code. In other words, DNA Code is the program to build and maintain life ! It was one of the greatest discoveries of all time!

Immediately, the problem of the Origin of Life is reduced to the problem of the Origin of DNA Code: Where did the DNA Code come from? WHO wrote the DNA Code?

Abiogenesis is stuck on this question, because DNA code is information – a non-material entity that cannot arise from a purely physical process.

But the desire to explain the origin of life still burns in the souls of scientists.

That is the reason for the birth of the EVOLUTION 2.0 Prize, officially announced on May 31, 2019 at the Royal Society of London, with a prize worth $10 million to be awarded to anyone who gives a logical, convincing, verifiable answer about the birth of the first life.

The article “Origin Of Life: $10 Million Prize at the Royal Society”[2] on Voices from Oxford says:

“Origin of Information is the central question in Origin Of Life (Abiogenesis). It’s critical to evolution itself. It is the most fundamental scientific question that can be precisely defined. A breakthrough may be as valuable as Einstein’s E=MC^2 or the invention of the transistor”.

If the Nobel Prize is considered the greatest award for scientific achievements, then the Evolution 2.0 Prize is 10 times greater than the Nobel Prize. This is true first of all in terms of prize money, and perhaps also in terms of scientific and philosophical significance, because the question of the origin of life is one of the greatest questions of mankind in its desire to find their origin.

Faced with such a big question, who could give an answer?

A Vietnamese-American mathematician has given an answer: Mr. Frank P. A. Dang (ABD, PhD), a lecturer of Mathematics and The Bible at The Covenant Christian Academy, Texas, participated in the competition. He submitted the following work to the Jury of Evolution 2.0 Prize:

“Big Dang Theory: A Unified Model of the Origin of Life, Code, and Cosmos via the Divine Ratio” .

This is a very unique and surprising work, combining mathematical reasoning, physics, information science, biology, with biblical theology, to give a general picture of the origin of the universe and life that no one has ever thought of.

It is interesting to emphasize right from the start that the origin of the universe and life, according to the Big Dang Theory, is information – a very neat and beautiful cosmological constant that the author calls the “Divine Ratio”. This unexpectedly resonates almost perfectly with the thinking of Werner Gitt , former President of the German Federal Institute of Science and Technology, author of “In the Beginning was information”. In this case, the French proverb “Les grands esprits se rencontrent” turns out to be extremely true!

The Mystery (the challenge Evolution 2.0)

Every cell reproduces itself from digital instructions, stored in DNA. DNA has the same features as modern digital devices: Layers of digital encoding, decoding and data storage; error detection, error correction and repair. Plus an ability to adapt that beggars the imagination.

How do living things repair and heal themselves, adapt to any situation you can imagine, and make choices? The genetic engineering capabilities of cells, which are discussed in the book Evolution 2.0, are not known to most people. But an answer suggests staggering implications for medicine, technology and the environment.

Cells re-engineer themselves, in real time, in hours… even minutes. The reason you have to finish your antibiotics is, germs can hyper-mutate at terrifying speed – then kill you with a vengeance.

How do cells “know” how to evolve? No human software does that. Give software millions of chances and billions of years and all it will do is crash. But life adapts relentlessly. How does it do this? What do cells know that we don’t?

And what about consciousness? In the human realm, only conscious beings create and modify code. Where does consciousness come from? Are cells self aware?

The Evolution 2.0 Prize focuses these issues down to one central question:

How do you get from chemicals to code? How do you get a code without designing one?

Perry Marshall and private equity investment group Natural Code LLC have issued a technology prize to find a person who can solve this.

What You Must Do to Win The Prize

You must arrange for a digital communication system to emerge or self-evolve without “cheating.” The diagram below describes the system. Without explicitly designing the system, your experiment must generate an encoder that sends digital code to a decoder. Your system needs to transmit at least five bits of information. (In other words it has to be able to represent 32 states. The genetic code supports 64.)

You have to be able to draw an encoding and decoding table and determine whether or not the data has been transmitted successfully.

So, for example, an RNA based origin of life experiment will be considered successful if it contains an encoder, message and decoder as described above. To our knowledge, this has never been done.

Does life harness undiscovered laws of physics? Are there unknown emergent properties in nature?

With CRISPR gene editing technology and exponentially accelerating AI, these are questions of burning importance.

If we can unearth the underlying forces that create and propel life, we stand to reap enormous benefits in Artificial Intelligence, engineering, computer science, nutrition, aging, health, cancer research, disease treatment and prevention.

The Problem

Natural Code LLC is a Private Equity Investment group formed to identify a naturally occurring code. Our mission is to discover, develop and commercialize core principles of nature which give rise to information, consciousness and intelligence.

Natural Code LLC will pay the researcher $100,000 for the initial discovery of such a code. If the newly discovered process is defensibly patentable, we will secure the patent(s). So… where did the information in DNA come from? This is one of the most important and valuable questions in the history of science. Currently, no one knows the answer.

Frank Dang’s Personal Testimony: The Journey Behind the Big Dang Theory

I grew up in a poor village in southern Vietnam, raised in a culture shaped by Buddhist tradition and deep spiritual searching. When Saigon—the capital of South Vietnam, where my father served as a medic captain—fell on April 30, 1975, marking the end of the Vietnam War, I was just four years old. At the age of seven, I had an experience involving a small fish (I stole a small fish from an elderly poor lady) — one that God used to awaken in me a lifelong desire to give something meaningful back to the world. That fish has become a symbol of my journey: what seemed small and humble was the seed of something vast and eternal. That seed has now grown into what I believe is a theory designed for such a time as this — The Big Dang Theory (BDT).

Years later, I found myself deeply immersed in the world of mathematics, stepping into the esteemed halls of Tulane University as a Ph.D. student in pure math, after graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. I completed one year of doctoral studies before life’s journey led me toward a second calling—the study of biblical theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, followed by further exploration in philosophical leadership. After earning my Master of Divinity with a concentration in Biblical Languages (Hebrew and Greek), I pursued once again a Ph.D. at Dallas Baptist University, where I sought to unite the precision of logic with the timeless wisdom of Scripture. It was there that I proposed the Big Dang Theory—a model rooted in the conviction that the origin of life, matter, and information must stem not from chance, but from the Logos, the divine Word who was with God and who was God (John 1:1). Though I lacked the empirical data at the time to substantiate my claims and my dissertation was ultimately not approved, I never gave up.

Then came the vindication.

In 2021, mainstream science confirmed that pure light, when sufficiently contracted, can indeed produce matter. This revelation aligned perfectly with the very heart of BDT: that the Divine Light (Logos) — not a chaotic bang — is what contracted to form the singularity. From this contraction emerged the Divine Ratio, which gives rise to resonance, pattern, the genetic code, and ultimately, life.

From Scripture to the lab bench, from ratios in music to triplet codes in DNA, I began to see the 1:24 ratio— the Divine Ratio — embedded everywhere! One of the profound confirmations of the Divine Ratio (4:96 or 1:24) comes from the very structure of the cosmos itself. According to modern cosmology, approximately 96% of the universe is made up of dark matter and dark energy, completely invisible, undetectable through normal means, and scientifically “unknown”. Only 4% of the universe consists of what we call normal matter, everything we can see, touch, and measure. This breakdown, as 4% known and 96% unknown, has long puzzled scientists, but to my meditation, especially my BDT, it is the signature of the divine proportion. This is not a coincidence, it is a code. It is a ratio. Another astonishing confirmation is found in the Hebrew Bible. When we calculate the phrase “And the LORD spoke” (or “And God said”), it occupies 4% of the total Hebrew text! This matches the structure of the creation.

Eureka! God’s 4% of revealed speech governs the 96% of unseen influence, just as gravity, a force we don’t see, governs the structure and movement of galaxies.

This divine ratio,“1:24”, wasn’t just theoretical; it was testable. Resonance experiments began to reflect Shannon-valid coding properties. I now had measurable outputs. The encoder, the message, and the decoder were naturally arising from vibrational harmony, seeded by a code older than time — a code embedded in the created order by the breath of God.

Today, The Big Dang Theory is no longer a rejected proposal. It is a movement. It has become my life’s work — a bridge between science and Scripture, between wave physics and the Word, between the despair of randomness and the hope of intelligent design. And it is ready.

I submit BDT to the Evolution 2.0 Challenge not merely as a theory, but as a testable pathway — a clear demonstration of a naturally occurring, encoded system rooted in a fundamental constant: the Divine Ratio 1:24. It is beautiful. It is mathematically structured. And it reveals that the Word became flesh (John 1:14) was not just a theological statement — it was the deepest truth in physics.

My students named it The Big Dang Theory, inspired by Philippians 2:6–11 — where Christ, being in the form of God, “emptied Himself” (contraction) and took on flesh. That is where creation began. That is where the code began. And I believe, by God’s grace, this is where the conversation changes. This is my offering — my “fish” to the world.

This is a bold scientific work, because it shows that “In the beginning was information”. In many scientific articles and presentations, I have said that information must come first, just like a computer must have an operating program from the beginning. This point of view was affirmed by Werner Gitt in his very good book, “In the Beginning was information”.
